IB Programs
The IB connects our two national curricula from Mexico and the United States together to achieve a unified, global, and challenging academic program championing service and critical engagement with the world.
PYP
In Preschool the teachers have been getting very serious about fun! They know that research and the PYP show us that play is essential for developing communication, thinking, social, and self management skills. They know that kids benefit enormously from play. Teachers have been creating joyful moments of play - some more structured and less structured. We can see unstructured play where the students develop social skills and imagination. Teachers have been designing more structured playful experiences connected to their units. K1 is planning a “trip” to explore different habitats around campus. K2 has been playing in “mini communities” using the tools of the community workers they have been learning about. In K3 we are planning for play and experimentation with their unit as they explore different kinds of changes. Both staff and students are growing with play and having fun!
MYP Toys for refugee children
In MYP classes, we try to design authentic learning experiences that relate to real-life contexts. In this Design class, Miss Paty Treviño has the students using the design cycle to create toys for refugee children. Students empathize with the user, set success criteria and parameters for their products, and develop prototypes. After this process, students will build their toys and test them with 6th-grade students for feedback and reflection.
DP Students making an impact
The IB Diploma Program challenges students to discover the extraordinary inside themselves and to contribute to a better world. Our students think critically about the world around them, communicate eloquently in multiple languages, serve others with pride and empathy, lead with integrity, and enter the world of college and career with confidence and ready to make an impact.
One example of our student’s diversity is TEDx Youth at JFK.
TEDx Youth came to JFK by way of two students who graduated last year: Mariana James and Julia Romero. They wanted to leave a lasting legacy to JFK and saw TEDx as a platform to share ideas, to collaborate, to inspire others and to expand our horizons.
From the success of the event last year, and with a promise to Julia and Mariana to keep it running every year at JFK if it was a success, we are having our second TEDx event on March 24th. This event is led by co-chairs Ximena Lopez and Hye Min Kim Jung.
